Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first television roles included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mother. In fear of stress, her parents did not want to see her pursue acting before turning 18. Perry claims she never wanted to become an actor during high school, but she decided to begin performing as a form of social interaction at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, getting small roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry come back to California and find work as an actress in the theater. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. Her father portrayed her in the ABC Drama Scandal. The same year, she portrayed a child character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother in a youthful version. She got the part in an audition that was open despite being connected to the persona.
